Black Eagle Nurseries and Maintenance, Inc specialize in salvaging and relocating native trees and cacti on land development projects. Several species of native trees, shrubs and cacti are protected by city ordinances. Owners and developers in specific areas of Scottsdale, Phoenix, Peoria, Buckeye and Mesa are required to salvage and replant native plants that meet certain size requirements and are deemed to be healthy enough to survive the boxing and transplanting process.
The tree salvage process includes pruning, boxing and moving the trees to an on-site nursery where they are stored until the time to be replanted. We install a drip irrigation system and provide weekly service to water the trees and any other work required to keep them in healthy condition.
Saguaro cacti are salvaged bare root using a truck with a custom made hydraulic cradle. The cradle is tilted up to a vertical position and the Saguaro is secured to the cradle. The Saguaro is excavated from the soil and tilted back onto the truck with the cradle supporting the trunk and bracing supporting arms. The Saguaro is transported to the on-site nursery location where it is planted for later use.
